Marketing Contractor (Updated on 8/19/26)
About Better Food Foundation
The Better Food Foundation is a non-profit organization powering a global movement for plant-forward, climate-smart food systems. We use behavioral science strategies to develop and scale climate solutions. We focus on transforming food service settings in university dining halls, coffee shops, restaurants, workplaces, events, and other out-of-home locations that shape our cultural food norms.
We work across a few core areas:
- Transforming Food in Higher Education: We train student interns through our DefaultVeg Campus program, and collaborate with university foodservice and sustainability professionals to advocate for plant-forward dining on university campuses.
- Professional Training & Education: We offer webinars and live events that provide training in behavioral science and advocacy. Our goal is to empower participants to advocate for climate-smart, plant-forward food systems.
- NGO Partner Network: We strengthen the broader ecosystem of advocates working to transform our food system (plant-rich diet change) through capacity-building, strategic organizing, and movement-building.
The Role
We’re hiring a Marketing Coordinator to keep our content calendar, publishing schedule, and day-to-day marketing operations running on time and on-brand. You’ll report to Juli Schulz, VP of Strategy & Programs, and work from an established content strategy. Your job is to execute it well.
This is a coordination and production role. If you’re the person who makes sure nothing falls through the cracks, drafts get edited before they go out, and every project is scheduled on time, this is built for you.
What You’ll Do
- Own and maintain the marketing content calendar across social media, the website, email, and press releases
- Write, edit, and proofread copy for newsletters, web pages, social posts, and email campaigns in BFF’s voice
- Schedule and publish content across our channels (WordPress, Mailchimp, etc.)
- Support newsletter and fundraising email production, from draft through send
- Collaborate with program staff to gather stories, testimonials, and data for content
- Coordinate production of marketing materials (brochures, flyers, videos, and other assets) with designers and outside contractors
- Compile data from team members and consultants to support marketing reporting
- Prepare meeting agendas, review AI-generated meeting notes, and distribute action items
Who You Are
You might be a good fit for this role if you:
- 2-4 years of experience coordinating marketing content or campaigns, ideally at a nonprofit, environmental, or food systems organization
- A strong writer and editor who can juggle several small projects without dropping details
- Comfortable owning a content calendar and keeping a team on deadline
- Proficient with Canva, WordPress, Mailchimp (or a similar email platform), Circle.so, and AI tools like Claude
- Familiar with basic CRM and project management tools
- Organized, collaborative, and responsive
- Genuinely interested in plant-forward food and climate-smart food systems
- Able to work independently as a contractor and manage your own schedule
Logistics
- Ongoing contract on a monthly retainer, starting at 20 hours/week (With availability Monday – Thursday for Zoom meetings in PST time zone)
- Fully remote
- Compensation: Monthly retainer commensurate with experience
- Reports to: Juli Schulz, VP Strategy & Programs
